Drug Name Search

• Brand or Generic - Just type in the name and we will find matching labels whether by Brand Name or Generic Name.
• Wildcard - Can't remember the whole name? Just type in the beginning of the name and use the "*" wildcard. (e.g., "hepa*")
• ANDs, ORs, & NOTs - You can use logical operators and parentheses to build more robust searches; e.g., (aspirin and codeine) not caffeine. If no parentheses are used in the search, the order of precedence for the three logical operators are AND then OR then NOT.

  National Drug Code Searching

• The full National Drug Code (NDC) includes a total of 10 digits, arranged in three segments and separated by hyphens: Labeler Number - Product Number - Package Number. The NDC digits can be formatted as, 4-4-2 (e.g., 1234-5678-90), 5-4-1 (e.g., 12345-6789-0) or 5-3-2 (e.g., 12345-678-90).
• Searching - You may search for NDCs several ways:
  • Enter entire NDC (including hyphens, e.g., 12345-678-90), or
  • Enter only the Labeler code (e.g., 12345), or
  • Enter both the Labeler and Product codes (e.g., 12345-6789)

 Product Types

• Specify the breadth of your search by checking and unchecking the various Product Types.
• Fine tune your search by expanding the Product Type lists and selecting specific sub-categories.

  Advanced Searching

• Label Sections - Select which Label Sections you would like to search, or select "Check All" to search through the more than 60 different FDA Section Headings. We have grouped the Sections into convenient categories to facilitate searching through similar sections, yet you can still expand the groups to fine tune your selection down to the individual FDA Section Headings.
• Ingredient - Select Active, Inactive, or Both.
• Sponsor - The Labeler Code (NDC) owner of the marketed product, typically the Manufacturer or Private Label Distributor.

• ANDs, ORs, & NOTs - You can use logical operators and parentheses to build more robust searches. For example, you can enter shampoo or injection in Dosage Form as well as not XYZ-Pharma in Sponsor to find all the drugs that come in injection or shampoo forms that are not made by XYZ-Pharma.

  What 'Pill' Is This?

• Dropdown Lists - Use the dropdown lists to describe the pill (or tablet, capsule, etc.) you wish to identify.
• Imprint - What is written on your pill? If your pill has the letter M on it, type M here and we will find all pills that have the letter M on it.
• Scoring - This is not the number of indentations on your pill, but rather how many pieces it can be cut into. For example, if your pill has one indentation down the middle, it can be cut into two pieces, so you would select 2 for Scoring.

  Searching Across Areas

• All Entries Are Combined - When you enter search terms in different sections such as Water in Inactive Ingredient and XYZ Pharma in Sponsor, the two search terms are ANDed together.
• All Words - Spaces - Entering a list of words separated by spaces is the same as entering AND between each word. Entering codeine aspirin is the same as entering codeine AND aspirin.
• Any Word - Commas - Entering a list of words separated by commas is the same as entering OR between each word. Entering codeine, aspirin is the same as entering codeine OR aspirin.
• Phrases - Enclosing a phrase in quotes (“fast acting”) will only find labels containing that specific phrase.
